SIMEDHealth is currently seeking a Part Time Laboratory Technologist to work in our busy Gainesville Laboratory. Our laboratory provides chemistry, hematology, immunology, virology and toxicology testing services to the more than 100+ SIMEDHealth providers.

The Laboratory Technologist will rely on knowledge of technical principles, equipment operation and clinical correlation in order to properly perform laboratory procedures and to produce consistent and accurate laboratory results.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Florida State License as a Laboratory Technologist in Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology is required
  • ASCP Certification as a Medical Technologist is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a laboratory health care setting required
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills, and the desire to be part of a dynamic laboratory team required

The Laboratory Technologist will:

  • Independently perform laboratory procedures and validate their acceptability
  • Keep their work area organized, neat, and clean
  • Prioritize and perform assigned workload and produce acceptable laboratory results in an acceptable time frame
  • Adhere to policy and procedures relating to safety issues, including but not limited to:
    • Infection control
    • Universal precautions
    • Needle safety
  • Attend mandatory in-services and other continuing education seminars, workshops, etc. as necessary to maintain licensure requirements and remain current with new technology
  • Review current and new technology advances to improve clinical service, technical performance, and cost effectiveness
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies for the department
  • Utilize PPE as appropriate for specific duties
  • Prepare and package biohazardous waste per guidelines
  • Troubleshoots instrumentation as required
  • Calls and/or delivers Critical Value reports as soon as they have been verified
  • Performs a variety of standardized procedures both automated and manually, using established standards and controls to ensure accurate data and maintains these records systematically
  • Understands the principles of and competently performs a variety of techniques, using automated analyzers, within the hematology and chemistry departments
  • Performs quality control and preventative maintenance; and correctly performs analysis and interprets results obtained in an acceptable and accurate manner
  • Processes specimens for in-lab analysis, and prepares specimens for referral testing
  • Correctly prepares reagents, controls, and samples for analysis
  • Aware of all safety protocols of the laboratory and guides others to follow
